Outfitting a kayak is like customizing a car.  You want to turn your kayak into an extension of yourself.  Whitewater kayaks used to be the only ones that got attention in this area.  Now kayakers from all walks of life with all types of kayaks are taking advantage of this adventurer guilty pleasure.  Kayaks are coming from the factory with more outfitting kits than ever before.  Don’t think that outfitting a kayak is a one-time thing; it’s a process more than anything else.  You’re not going to get your kayak outfitted in one session unless you have done it for years.  Getting your boat the way you like it is a hobby.  Once you get everything in the boat, you’re going to want to tweak the boat.  However, you should be careful.  If you alter the boat too much, you’re either not going to have a functional boat or you will be left with a pile of sawdust.
People used to make kayaks so you can get out and in easily during long trips.  These days this is ill-advised due to the ever increasing length of the average kayak trip.  There are so many things involved with outfitting a kayak.  Once you get into the hobby, you will be addicted and want to do more and more.  It’s a fun hobby to have and is at the top of the list of what most kayakers end up doing.  When the kayak is done, you’re going to be able to stand back and marvel the work of art you have created.
