Kayaking Books

If you’re an avid reader, you can find everything you need in the hundreds of kayaking books that are available in the marketplace.  It’s hard to imagine that there’s even a market for books about kayaking, but you would be surprised how many people want to learn the ins-and-outs of this classic water sport.  Reading these books could definitely be beneficial learning tool before you decide to venture into the water.  They can serve as a solid substitute for paying a teacher to hold your hand every step of the way.  Everyone can’t afford the hundreds or thousands of dollars needed to get the expert tutelage of someone who has done it for years.  Books can’t completely take the place of teachers, but they can go a long way towards enhancing your kayaking knowledge.
A disadvantage here is that you can only read books on the shore.  Flipping through a book while sailing down a river could create some serious safety issues.  Also the effectiveness of this approach is only as effective as the memory and reading comprehension of the kayaker in question.  If you can’t remember what you read out of a book after you’ve read it and your learning style is better suited for being taught by an expert, lessons are your best option.  Plus, if you can’t remember what you read, you will spend most of your time on the water trying to recall what you’re reading and crash into a rock along the way.  Use your own learning method to figure out how to kayak.
